Practice Self-Care

Throughout our daily lives, we find ourselves constantly taking care of the house, the kids/grandkids, the animals, etc. Often times, we forget to take care of ourselves.

It's important to take time for yourself and practice self-care. The first step is understanding that there is no perfect or correct way to do it. Each person is different when it comes to their needs and wants.

Read on for some tips on how to improve your self-care and ultimately feel better.

Start Your Day Relaxed

If you feel like you're rushing in the morning to get ready and get out of the house, try waking up earlier. Sure, it sounds obvious, but taking time to slow down your morning routine can really help you start your day off on the right foot.

Take 5-10 minutes to just sit down and relax, whether it's to watch TV or practice meditation. It's important to take this time for yourself and prepare your mind for the day ahead of you.

Starting with a hectic morning can often lead to the feeling that you're just trying to catch up for the rest of the day. Remember to slow down and breathe.

    Drink Enough Water

Make sure you're staying hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day. After sleeping, you can sometimes wake up feeling groggy and dehydrated, so try leaving a glass of water by your bedside to drink when you wake up.

Drinking enough water can help you to maintain balance of your body fluids, nutrients, and body temperature. It can be easy to get distracted by everyday tasks, but try bringing a water bottle with you wherever you go to ensure you're drinking enough water.

    Eat Breakfast

Of course, some days feel more hectic than others, but it's important to try to make time to sit down and eat. Eating breakfast can help replenish glucose which, in turn, increases your energy levels and alertness. It can also stimulate your brain and kickstart your metabolism.

If you can't find time to sit down and eat, be sure to grab something to take on-the-go.

    Decompress

Take time for yourself throughout your busy day and decompress. Whether it's just for five minutes or for half an hour, taking time for yourself is extremely important because it can help you relieve stress and replenish your energy.

    Write

At the end of the day, write down three good things that happened to you or that you're grateful for. It could be as simple as how the flowers smelled when you walked outside this morning. Writing can help you really visualize things that you appreciate, and focusing on the positive aspects of the day.

    Do Something You Enjoy

Try to incorporate at least one thing you enjoy doing into every day. Make it a priority. When you do something you enjoy, you feel good, and that can help set the tone for the rest of the day.
