5 Healthy New Year’s Resolutions To Change Your Life For The Better

5 Healthy New Year’s Resolutions To Change Your Life For The Better

A good New Year’s Resolution isn’t something we should forget in a just few days. A good resolution can help us change our lives for the better. If we want to live longer lives, we have to start by getting healthier.

Since we are now a week into 2021, here are 5 Healthy (and reasonable) New Year’s resolutions that you can start right now.

Read a book before bed

In the end, it’s harder to stop something than to pick up something new. For that reason, we’re not going to tell you to turn off your phone before bed (though you certainly should).

Instead, replace the bad habit with a better one. Reading before bed can get you to put down your phone, can inspire you to be more creative, and can help you relax.

Drink more water

People rarely drink enough water. As we get older, we start to feel thirsty less and less. For most people, 4-6 cups of water a day is healthy.

If you know you don’t drink enough water, keep a water bottle with you all day. Drink from it slowly, whenever you feel like it. But make sure you finish the bottle by the end of the day. By keeping a water bottle with you, you’ll remember to drink more. You will also get to see your progress up close.

Walk more

Along with not drinking enough water, people rarely exercise enough. The golden ‘10,000 steps in a day’ idea may sound like a lot, but it’s not as much as you may think. That’s because we take more steps than we think when we walk somewhere.

Next time you walk somewhere, try to count your steps to your destination. Then, ask yourself: “How many times will I make a walk like this in one day?”

Ultimately, you’ll realize that you walk more than you think. We walk to cars and out of cars. We walk around work and around our homes.

In the end, all you have to do is park a little bit farther away. Take an extra trip with the groceries. Walk around as you eat your lunch. Walk your dog an extra time or for a longer distance.

These distances add up. Over time, they’ll become natural and make you healthier.

Add an apple (or orange, or banana, or berries) to your diet

We all know fruit is the world’s super food. Fruit is filled with vitamins and minerals. These include Vitamin C, Potassium, Fiber, and Vitamin A.

Fruit is also low in calories and low in fat, meaning fruit is a good weight loss food.

In the end, there’s a reason that the old adage goes ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’.

Adding one more piece of fruit to your meal can add plenty of vitamins to your diet, and it can fill you up.

Meditate

In our busy world, the ability to calm your mind is one of the healthiest things you can do. We are always rushing around. We run from work to school to home. We pick up people and groceries. We are always busy.

Meditation can reduce stress, promote mental health, help control pain, improve sleep, and more. Meditation also has no bad side effects. It is all good. Even meditating for a very short amount of time has huge benefits.

So, every so often, sit down. Breathe. Take a minute or two to just check in with your body and your feelings. Your body will thank you.

Good luck with all of your new goals for 2021 and Happy New Year!
