The Australian Oil · Since 2004

Heating the skin. Freezing the skin. Neither one reaches what is actually going on underneath.

Outback Original is a four ingredient Australian oil. No menthol burn. No icy shock. It rolls on in about thirty seconds and smells faintly of vanilla and eucalyptus.

Most people find us after the drugstore aisle stops working

There is a drawer in a lot of houses with the half-used tubes in it.

  • The hot cream
  • The freezing blue gel
  • Patches that peeled off
  • Wraps and braces
  • Heat pads and ice packs
  • Roll-ons that smelled like a pharmacy

Each one gave about twenty minutes of something, then went quiet. So the drawer fills up and the belief drains out. What follows is why this one is a different category of thing, and the honest limits of what it does.

Lesson one

What hot and cold products are actually doing

Menthol, camphor and capsaicin are what the industry calls counter-irritants. They do not travel to the source. They create a loud competing sensation on the skin so your nervous system attends to that instead.

Counter-irritants
  • Create heat or cold on the skin surface
  • Work by distraction, not by reaching deeper
  • Effect ends when the sensation fades
  • Strong medicinal scent
  • Built for use as needed
Outback Original
  • No menthol, no camphor, no capsaicin
  • Vanilla opens the way so the oils carry deeper
  • Nothing to wear off, so it is used daily
  • Light vanilla and eucalyptus, fades in minutes
  • Built for twice a day, every day

Heating up or freezing the skin is tricking your sensors. When the heat or cold goes away, you are back where you started.

This is why first-time users often say the first application felt like almost nothing was happening. There is nothing in the bottle engineered to feel dramatic.

How Outback Oil differs from hot and cold topicals

Lesson two

Four ingredients. That is the entire formula.

Turn over most topicals and you get a paragraph of names nobody can pronounce. Turn this one over and you get four plants, each with a specific job.

Eucalyptus leaves, tea tree sprig, vanilla pods and a dish of olive oil on weathered timber
The backbone

Blue Mallee eucalyptus

A rare blue-leafed strain found deep in the outback, considerably more potent than the eucalyptus sold in a chemist.

The soother

Australian tea tree

Australia's best known soothing oil. It works best when it can actually penetrate rather than sit on the surface.

Opens the way

Vanilla

A natural vasodilator. Its whole job is to let the eucalyptus and tea tree travel deeper. Also why it smells warm, not medicinal.

The carrier

Spanish olive oil

Not any olive oil. One very specific Spanish strain, the only one that would carry the other three instead of separating from them.

Lesson three

The four oils refuse to combine if you blend them all at once

Put them in a vat together on day one and they separate. This is the reason the formula has never been successfully copied off an ingredient list. The list is not the secret.

1

Introduced in sequence

The oils go in one at a time, in a fixed order, never together.

2

Timed to each plant

Each interval is set by that plant's own maturation cycle.

3

Triple matured

Three maturation stages across eight weeks before it holds as one oil.

Where it came from

A man who could not lift his own beer

Ralph Linford was an Australian engineer from a small town called Elmore. At eighty he developed rheumatoid arthritis severe enough that he could no longer lift his mug of beer. For an Australian man of that generation, that was not an inconvenience. That was the end of something.

He went looking for an answer that was not purely pharmaceutical. The search took him deep into the outback, where he met an Aboriginal healer named Bardo, who showed him Blue Mallee.

Blue Mallee country. A eucalyptus with blue leaves, growing where almost nothing else will.

Finding the other three ingredients, then working out the sequence that would make all four hold, took Ralph years. When he finally had it, it did not sell. So he gave it away around Elmore, and people kept coming back with the same sentence, which was that it actually worked.

Ten years later it was in practically every pharmacy in Australia.

Ralph has since passed away. His son Mark continues the family's work in plant-based topicals today.

Lesson five

What using it actually looks like

No countdown with percentages attached to it. Here is the honest version.

The first application

Roll on, rub in for about thirty seconds, done. Most people notice how little happens. There is no burn and no freeze.

The first week

Twice a day, morning and night, on the same areas. Consistency matters more here than quantity.

Four weeks

The window both trials used, so it is a fair point to judge it on. This is where most long-term customers say they first noticed a shift in morning stiffness.

Ongoing

Most people who stay with it use it daily rather than only on bad days. A 50mL roll-on is roughly a month at that rate.

If it does nothing

You have 365 days. We refund you in full and you keep the bottle. It does not work for everyone and we would rather refund you than argue with you.

Thirty seconds

Roll it on. Rub it in. Get on with your day.

1

Roll

Knees, feet, hands, lower back, shoulders, neck. No greasy fingers.

2

Rub in

About thirty seconds until it absorbs. Let it dry before dressing.

3

Twice daily

Morning and night, same areas. It travels in a handbag or a glovebox.

Questions

The things people ask before ordering

How long before I notice anything?

It varies. Both trials used four weeks of daily application, so that is the fairest window. Use it twice a day on the same areas rather than only when things flare up.

Why does it not feel hot or cold?

There is no menthol and no camphor in it. Those ingredients exist to create a strong surface sensation. Outback is not built that way, so the first application often feels underwhelming.

What does it smell like?

Light vanilla with eucalyptus behind it, fading within a few minutes. It does not smell like a pharmacy, which is the most common surprise in our reviews.

Is it greasy? Will it stain?

It is an oil, so give it thirty seconds of rubbing in and it absorbs. Let it dry before getting dressed and it will not mark clothing or bedding.

What is actually in it?

Blue Mallee eucalyptus, Australian tea tree oil, vanilla, and Spanish olive oil. That is the complete list. Vegan, no artificial colors, no synthetic menthol or camphor.

Where is it made?

The four oils are blended in Australia using an eight week triple maturation process, shipped to the United States in tanks, and bottled here.

Can I use it alongside what my doctor has me on?

Outback is a topical oil, not a medication, and is not intended to replace anything your doctor has prescribed. Check with your doctor if you have concerns, and patch test first if you have sensitive skin.

How does the refund work?

You have 365 days. Contact us and we refund you in full. You do not ship anything back and you keep the bottle. That is what returnless means.

Is this a subscription?

No. Every bundle here is a one-time purchase. You will never be auto-billed unless you deliberately choose a subscribe and save option at checkout.

How fast does it ship?

Orders ship from a US warehouse, free on orders over $40. Questions about an existing order can go to 1-800-215-8739.
